CHANGES TO COMMUNITY POINTS from 10/2/11
As you know, we're always striving to improve Swom and
make it the premier place for marketers to network.
So we're making some changes to encourage higher quality
interaction between members and reduce spam.
From 10th Feb, 2011 (after commissions calculations):
- community points will no longer be given for simply
posting and commenting irrelevant content.
- Instead, a new 'Like' feature will been added.
- You may 'Like' up to 10 activities per day on your
newsfeed. The author of the content will receive community
points for each of your 'Likes'.
- Get more 'likes' by posting quality content and engaging
in quality interaction with other members.
We hope that this change will encourage members to focus
on quality content and interaction, rather than posting large
amounts of irrelevant content to collect points as some
members have been doing in the past.
We anticipate that this will result in less community points
being given out, but that each community point will be
worth a lot more.
As this is a new feature, we'll be keeping a close eye on it
and looking out for member feedback.

* Update: We have made some changes to encourage higher quality interaction between members and reduce spam. Certain actions will no longer attract community points. Members naturally connect and chat with fellow members, and awarding community points for every post/comment just encourages spam. Instead, members should focus on building quality relationships and contacts. These contacts may become mentors or even prospective customers, which are worth far more.
We've added a new 'Like' feature for members to say what they like on the site. Members are rewarded for generating content that other members find interesting or helpful. For example: news about yourself, marketing education, motivational posts, news relating to the online marketing industry and analysis of such news may all be interesting or helpful to members. Get more 'likes' by posting quality content and engaging in quality interaction with other members.
With the new changes, less points will be given out (ie. no points for spam messages) but each point will be worth more than before.
The total commissions paid out will remain the same extraordinary 50% of company-wide Gold membership commissions for this bonus pool alone.
As all this is new, we'll be keeping an eye out for how it's all working and we'll be making adjustments as necessary.
Each user can cast up to 20 votes per day for Questions and Answers, and 'Like' up to 10 activities per day.
* Update Feb 12th: We have listened to member feedback and members may now 'Like' up to 50 activities per day. Each Like is now worth 2 community points. To prevent abuse of the system, multiple 'Likes' from the same person will only count as one 'Like' per day. Some members have started 'swapping' Likes with each other - this is not the best way to earn points, and can be considered cheating. Instead, focus on creating quality content and building quality relationships and contacts. You will find it far easier to get more 'Likes' in the long run.
We'll keep monitoring the system on how things are working, and tweak the system as needed.
One more thing - about the CC fairies... they are still there... but they look for quality interaction now :) We'll get them to work harder after the weekend!
Mar 3, 2011 - New Feature: You can now upload YouTube Videos to Swom! And of course, you will receive community points for people who Like your videos.
